Welcome
to our Autism Awareness Online site. I hope this can become your
resource or tool in your search to find out more about autism. Our
family is blessed with our 7 year old autistic daughter. We can all work
together to find the missing puzzle piece to autism. You may be visiting our site for many different reasons. You may be a parent or a family member of an autistic child, a educator, or maybe just someone who is interested in learning more or finding answers to your questions. This site was designed and started because of our beautiful autistic daughter. She is interwoven throughout the entire site. Most of us now know that autism has now grown to a rate of 1 out of 166. Just released in February 2007, that statistic has now grown to be 1 out of 150 children are now diagnosed and 80% of all autistic people are under the age of 18. When I read that the other day about the percentage of autistic people that are under the age of 18 I was completely shocked (I think my jaw dropped to the floor, LOL). But on a serious note, I think that is simply staggering and it makes me wonder "Why?". By now it seems like if you do not have someone in your family who has an autistic child that you know someone who does. Is it our environment, mercury, toxins, or maybe something else that still has to be researched. But I say, we are all in this together to help find that missing puzzle piece. The rate autism is growing they are now saying that within 7 years it will be 1 out of every 7 young families that will have an autistic child in it. Lets find that puzzle piece everyone.
